The department of conservative dentistry and Endodontics at GSL dental college strives
to raise
the level of competence among students by helping them to develop skills and understand

The department has separate well equipped working clinics for postgraduates and undergraduate students. A separate preclinical lab is designated withwell maintained phantom heads for the preclinical work to be carried out by undergraduate students. A central sterilization room for the overall sterilization and disinfection of instruments, materials, working area and laundry.
Weekly seminars, Journal club presentations and tutorials for students are conducted in the seminar room. Department has the latest audio-visual facilities and free access to the speed internet. The department is equipped with the best and highly advanced technologies for addressing vast variety of clinical scenarios like Dental operating microscope, bleaching units, three dimensional obturating systems etc,. Postgraduate have separate room for themselves where they have their individual lockers to keep their records and materials.
The department has a good patient inflow. At the undergraduate level, we impart training as small group discussion as well as in individual manner so as to prepare a student to diagnose and treat the disease of the supporting structures of the teeth on a daily basis and make appropriate referrals for advanced care. It also trains students for further training in Conservative dentistry and Endodontology. The Postgraduate program aims at producing a graduate competent in teaching, clinical work & research activities.

The faculty, post graduate students and undergraduate students are encouraged to attend conferences and workshops to present scientific paper and posters and table clinics. In addition to their library dissertation, post graduate students are encouraged to take up short term collaborative research projects and also publish the same in peer reviewed indexed journals. We hold the pride to host one of the most prestigious speciality specific 22nd national PG Convention in association with Indian association of Conservative dentistry and endodontics i.e. IACDE. Our faculty have been invited as keynote speakers in various national level scientific gatherings. We make sure to promote and celebrate our speciality day with energetic activities, debates, co-curricular activities for students and staff to keep the learning and developing spirit alive. Both students and faculty have won several awards and prizes for their presentations at various national and international scientific forums of repute. Recently, under the theme Smart dentistry initiated by the college management and Principal we conducted a workshop of Rubberdamology and Basic rotary endodontic workshop for Undergradute and Postgraduate students in tie up with highly reputed dental brands.
POST GRADUATE CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY AND ENDODONTICS
The goal of mastering in Conservative Dentistry and Endodonticsprogram at GSL Dental College trains a student who will be able to provide the highest and world class diagnosis in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics.They are trained in order to manageemergency cases, pulpal and periapical pathosis, management of common restorative situations, basic and advanced aesthetic procedures, endodontic situations that will include contemporary management of dental caries, management of trauma including periodontal situations. Ability to master differential diagnosis and recognize conditions that may require multidisciplinary approach or a clinical situation outside the realm of the specialty.
Students in this program work towards a certificate in mastering the specialty ofConservative Dentistry and Endodontics which is one of the highly esteemed branch of dentistry. In this program, students develop their microscopic, clinical, diagnostic and critical thinking skills in a resource-rich, supportive, collegial and collaborative environment.
The Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics program begins with an intensive didactic curriculum lasting 36 months that provides a broad understanding of the pathophysiology, behavior of disease and a strong theoretical background in the area of student's research interests. All students are expected to complete Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics along with curriculum prescribed by Dental council of India. Clinical training in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics consists of three components conservative, endodontics and patient care.
Students undergo rigorous training in treating carious lesions by handling various direct and indirect restorative materials which are both tooth coloured and non-tooth coloured, root canal treatments followed by complete rehabilitation of tooth, management of Endo-Perio lesions, smile designing, single visit endodontics, Minor Surgical procedures including crown lengthening, Perioesthetics, Hemi Sectioning, Splinting, Replantation, Regenerative Endodontic procedures including Apexification and Apexogenesis, Endo Surgery including PeriradicularSurgeries, Microsurgery, Microendodonticsand Esthetic treatmentlike vital and no-vital bleaching with a thorough knowledge of infection control measures in the dental clinical environment and laboratories. It also includes the basic concepts of dentistry such as taking proper chair side history, examining the patients and perform medical and dental diagnostic procedures as well as perform relevant tests and interpret to them to come to a reasonable diagnosis about the dental condition in general and Conservative Dentistry – Endodontics in particular. To perform all levels of restorative work, surgical and non-surgical Endodontics as well as endodontic-periodontal surgical procedures as part of multidisciplinary approach to clinical condition.And undertake complete patient monitoring including preoperative as well as post operative care of the patient.Provide basic life-saving support in emergency situations.
Students are encouraged to actively participate and present in National and International conferences regarding the scientific data in respected quorums. Students are also encouraged to take research projects and work with nationally and internationally renowned researchers and receive guidance from their institute's principal investigators. Beginning in their first year, all students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the various research opportunities available at GSL educational Institutions and are given the opportunity to identify projects that meet their individual interests and needs. After six months of joining of their first year, students should identify a research supervisor and begin research activities. After the start of the MDS program, students continue to participate in Conservative and endodontics training and it’s related seminars, although an increasing proportion of their time is devoted to research, preclinical work advocated by DCI, and are also involved in undergraduate teaching. The second and final year of MDS is integrated with clinical work ranging from basic to high end surgical management of cases with the use and mastering of advanced technologies present in the department such as microscope, irrigation units, CBCT in endodontics, esthetic procedures involving bleaching units, veneerings etc., along with carrying out the research activity and academic works. Keeping in mind the urge of complete sterilization and disinfection to the patient and operating personnel all the endodontic and restorative procedures are carried out under rubber dam isolation.
UNDER GRADUATE CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY AND ENDODONTICS
Well lightened and spacious, with excellent infrastructure and unique atmosphere of the Department is blessed with the best faculty who enlightens and enriches the knowledge for their students. This department has separate and well equipped units for postgraduate and undergraduate courses. This department is involved in the training of II BDS, III BDS, IV BDS students and Interns in the subjects of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics and dental materials.
In Conservative dentistry and endodontics, each year approximately 190 hours of theory covering all basic aspects, 324 hours of practical work covering preclinical courses and 288 clinical hours for III BDS and IV BDS years for dental development and various other dental structures and normal morphology and their pathology and how to manage such cases. In order to inculcate the clinical skills the students are made to practise in a simulated clinical scenarios on the phantom heads in typhodont tooth and on extracted natural teeth. In preclinical conservative dentistry, students do the cavity preparations and restore them with different restorative materials on typhodont and permanent teeth done under rubberdam isolation. Along with performing root canal treatments in extracted natural teeth. In Conservative dentistry and endodontics, approximately 110 hours of theory cover all basic aspects, and 176 hours of hands-on classes each year to learn and identify different types of carious lesions and oral diseases and train students to do so. Students will also receive training through presentations and schematics of cases of carious lesions. Students participate in discussions and conduct seminars.
They also get trained in surgical treatment, perform and/or collaborate in scientific or clinical research projects; and excel as a medical educator and leader in the specialty.At the undergraduate level, we impart training as small group discussion as well as in individual manner so as to prepare a student to diagnose and treat the disease of the supporting structures of the teeth on a daily basis and make appropriate referrals for advanced care.
